The Deputies Guild has been working without a new contract since January 2010.
The following information from Deputy Aman details some of the contract negotiation process after hitting an impasse with the County. You will see that most of what is being arbitrated is contract language with a portion dealing with pay and benefits issues.
01/18/2012: It has been a little over 2 years since our contract expired with Kitsap County. After an exhaustive negotiations and then mediation process we were certified for Arbitration in October of 2011. The items that have been certified for Arbitration includes:
- Recognition and Guild Activities Language
- Automatic Deposit Language
- Grievance/Arbitration Procedure
- Discipline/Discharge Language
- Medical/Psychological Fitness for Duty Language
- Wages and Benefits
- Overtime
- Leave Schedules/Accruals/Holidays
- Annual Leave
- Bill of Rights
We have currently received a Arbitrators list from PERC (Public Employee's Relations Commission) and are in the process of reviewing it. We will then begin to strike names with the County to obtain an Arbitrator name.
Once an Arbitrator is selected I expect us to schedule the Interest Arbitration Hearing sometime between April and May. The negotiations team will continue to negotiate with the county in good faith to try to resolve these issues prior to Arbitration.
My goal is to continue to provide timely updates as information changes. As always if you have any thoughts or questions about the negotiations process please don't hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Andy Aman
